Psychodynamic Psychoanalytic Therapy

Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic Therapy

I am a trained psychoanalyst which means that I focus on unconscious thoughts and feelings that inform your thoughts and behaviors.

Psychodynamic work focuses on the past and its impact on your current life and relationships, allowing a deeper level of understanding and processing to take place in session. In therapy we will utilize the interactions between us to better understand patterns in your life as it informs your sense of self as well as your personal relationships. This treatment model is recommended for people who suffer from depression, anxiety, lack of motivation, interpersonal issues, and confusion of identity. It is helpful for people who find themselves repeatedly engaging in behaviors that create emotional (and at times physical) discomfort.

Psychoanalytic work is encouraged for people who have chronic depression and/or anxiety. It is also helpful for people who don’t feel they can be themselves and wonder about their sense of self and identity. Psychoanalysis is especially useful for people who continuously find themselves in the same harmful and/or uncomfortable situations. Psychoanalysis requires a commitment of at least twice a week treatment, and it is for people who are interested in a more expansive understanding of their psychic life.

LGBTQ+

I welcome people from all backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities, and relationship configurations in my practice. I especially work well with individuals and couples who live outside of the heteronormative experience. Oftentimes people I work with express that there are no words to describe their lived experience, creating an isolating existence. We will work together to build your individual voice, allowing you to live a more fulfilling and authentic life in a world that places value on heteronormativity over other lived experiences.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma

Trauma can often feel like a ghost that follows you throughout your life. People who suffer from trauma often report living in the shadow of painful events from their past. I am trained in somatic experiencing, which means I incorporate your body’s experience in session allowing for a full expression of the internalized trauma you are holding. In therapy we will work together to create a safe place to fully process the painful shadows of your past so that you can move forward in your life, allowing you to live a full and authentic life rather than living in a reactive way, one strongly impacted by your past trauma.

Struggles within Insular Communities

People who have grown up in insular communities often feel restricted and misunderstood. I specialize in working with people who are currently practicing, or who have left, Orthodox Judaism. I am well versed in Orthodox Jewish terminology, and I understand and appreciate the beauty and complexity of Orthodox Judaism. I respect the struggles that can emerge as a result of identifying with, or leaving, Orthodoxy and help people navigate the difficult thoughts and feelings that are brought to the surface throughout their personal religious journey. I will work with you to create a safe space for self-discovery, allowing you to address questions that would otherwise be difficult and threatening to talk about. We will work together to better understand your personal struggles allowing for the emotional and intellectual space needed to make informed decisions that lead to an authentic and meaningful life.
